Despite the rain 🌧 The group of ladies from the Nenagh Women and Friends Shed – Mna agus Cairde an T-Aonaigh had a great day visiting the Cloughjordan Ecovillage. First stop they visited the Community Soup Cafe and had a delicious sustainable lunch made with locally sourced produce direct from the Cloughjordan Community Farm all to celebrate & mark the importance of World Earth Day 🌏🌏 with a Cuppa for Climate and Friends of the Earth Ireland
The day ended with a really interesting tour by Cloughjordan Ecovillage led by Veronica and their Education Officer we leant so much, We even travelled by bus using the TFI Local Link Tipperary.
One of the Ladies attending commented “They talked about the three leaf leek shown in pictures and how it’s an invasive plant. Luckily the entire plant can be used, as they had done in their cooking. It was on the soup, bread and that delicious spread on the table. When pulling up, you need to pull the entire plant including bulb. Also cut the flowers before they have a chance to go to seed, otherwise they get everywhere”
Another saying “The dark sky circle, to be used at night to view the stars, as there is no light pollution in the eco village.

Can you imagine how amazing that would be. That’s why they are looking for that status, as there is no light pollution and they as well as the main town want to build lights with low illumen, that cast light down and not up. These areas are rare, but I think there is another one in southern Ireland, but unsure where.
Also they want to become a dark skies zone with special luminance, along with the rest of Cloughjordan”
