SICAP in North Tipperary has been instrumental in rolling out the Acorn Digital Tablet initiative and assisting with basic tutorials to each beneficiary, to become confident and competent in using the tablet. This scheme gives the beneficiary the opportunity to engage over a 12 week period in areas of interest to themselves and use the device as a means of communication with other Acorn Tablet devices and to engage via the device with friends and family in an online capacity.

Here in North Tipperary the rollout of the Acorn Digital Tablets for older people has greatly enriched the lives of our older citizens, particularly during lockdowns. People in their late 70’s, 80’s and even 90’s are experiencing the benefits of using WhatsApp to contact family members at home and abroad, talk and see what their grandchildren are up to, listen to County music apps, partake in Mass and view funerals and weddings online, send condolences, participate in online Bingo through Zoom, view travel destinations and in one case place a bet on the Grand National and Cheltenham online.

If you are aged 70 plus and are interested in knowing more about this scheme, please call Breada Ryan on 087 9280755. Currently we are looking at expressions of interest for the rollout of the initiative in 2022.
